Welcome to our first blog post

Hello Everyone,

I am Nancy the Knitter, I thought I would share with you a bit about our company and ourselves.

I learned to knit at an early age. My paternal grandmother was accomplished at many things. She had to rely on her own skills to keep her family clothed and fed. I think she recognized in me, a love of needle crafts. My first projects were made on a wooden thread spool with 4 nails in the top. We called it corking, and it produced a round knitted rope, which you could use to make into dolls clothing. My Barbie had a large and very unusual wardrobe!

As I grew older, I took up regular knitting, first making scarves, then learning how to read patterns so I could move on to more complex projects. Throughout my life, knitting has been my creative outlet, and it eventually became a stress reliever and my zen place. Yes, I also crochet, felt, and spin my own wool for special projects, but most of my quiet time is spent knitting.

My daughter Hope is also a knitter, and still learning some techniques. Her strength however is with the computer and social media. Her skills put me to shame. Together, we are the Near North Studio team. As we travel through this project, we have a few goals. We will both work to our strengths, have some fun, and hopefully both teach and learn from others we meet along the way.
