Knitting in Strange places...

Hello everyone!

Nancy the Knitter here, I went to the Women’s March in Washington DC on a cold and rainy weekend in January. My sister Sandi organized the reservations, so I just had to fly in and meet up with her. We walked around DC sightseeing on Friday, so our legs were stiff for the march on Saturday. Sadly, everything Federal was closed because of the government shutdown, but we still were able to see the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, the Capital Building exterior and the White House exterior. The route of the march and the meeting area were changed at the last moment, so the meeting area was reduced to a small square, and the march route to one city block, which made things difficult, because there were more people marching than could fit into the square and the city block. While we were waiting for the march to begin, we found a cement block we could sit on on the outer edge of the crowd. By staying in one place, we had the opportunity to meet some of the women around us.

Interestingly, each woman was marching for different feminist or political issues. Most were also protesting Trump. We met a small group of friends from Georgia, Kentucky, and Florida, who were standing beside us. I was amazed when one woman pulled her knitting from her bag, and started knitting standing up. Her friends were joking that she had to hurry and finish the hat to keep warm at the march. Watching her, I realized that I had never tried knitting while standing. I know a well known knit designer from the 50s and 60s used to knit while riding on the back of her husband’s motorcycle, which was definitely brave.

Have you ever knitted or crocheted in an unusual place or while in motion?
