Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know what size to order?

Each sweater is hand knitted using a variety of different wools, so no two sweaters are exactly alike. For this reason, we are grouping sweaters into the Small, Medium, etc. categories, as well as publishing the exact measurements for each sweater.  The chest measurement is your normal chest circumference with 3-4 inches added as these sweaters are outerwear and need extra room for your clothes underneath.

Measuring – Chest  measure the circumference of your chest then add 4 inches

How do I wash my sweater? Will the colours run?

The best way to keep your wool sweater clean is to wash it by hand in lukewarm water, using a mild detergent such as Woolite or Eucalan. After rinsing, gently squeeze excess water out (do not wring), then lay flat to dry. If necessary, dry cleaning can also be used, however your sweater will not be as warm, and will not last as long. Machine washing or drying will cause the sweater to shrink and the knitted strands will felt. For more cleaning info, please see our "Sweater Care" page.

You do not have to worry about any of the colors running. All coloured wool used is dyed with colour-fast dyes.

Why is sheep's wool so warm?

The air-spaces created by the barbels holding each hair shaft apart from the others is what creates the warmth. Each sweater is knitted using two strands of wool for extra density. This is also why you should never machine wash a wool sweater. The agitation of the washer or dryer will cause the barbels to catch the other strands and bind them together, causing felting. Felted sweaters shrink in size and become a single piece of material.

What is your return policy?

If for some reason, this sweater does not make you happy, please package it up and send it back to us. A refund will be processed once we receive the sweater. Please note, we cannot accept a sweater that has been worn or washed. It must be in NEW condition, as it was shipped. Before returning, please message or email us for further shipping arrangements.

Will my sweater be itchy?

Not all people itch when they wear wool. This sweater is meant to be worn as an outer layer like a jacket. This will prevent you from itching, because your skin will not have contact with the wool. The itching is caused by skin irritation from the microscopic barbel on each strand of fibre. Itching may also be caused by allergies to the wool.

Do you make custom sized sweaters?

If you wish to do a custom size in one of my designs, please allow 8 weeks for it to be knitted. I will still need the three basic measurements in order to complete the sweater. I do not knit sweaters using other designs or materials.

What happens if the item I wish to purchase is out of stock?

If an item is out of stock , we will happily knit one for you as long as the pattern is not discontinued. It will take Near North Studio *3-5 weeks to knit your sweater (plus shipping time).

*If sweater size is not a standardized size (i.e custom) please allow for up to 8 weeks.
